Guwahati News Desk: The President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, on Monday, blamed the country’s fast-deteriorating security situation on the “sudden” decision taken by the United States to withdraw its troops.
President Ghani told the Afghan parliament in a speech, “The current situation is due to a sudden decision on the withdrawal of the international troops.”
The President added that the Taliban would not move towards peace unless the worsening security situation was curbed. However, he further informed, that the government had a security plan to bring the situation under control within six months.
Ghani also accused the Taliban of keeping up its ties with terrorist groups and of stepping up attacks on women and on civil society activists.
The Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, rejected Ghani’s accusations and replied in a tweet, “Declarations of war, accusations and lies cannot prolong Ghani’s government’s life; his time has run out, God willing.”
As per the sources, the peace talks between the Afghan government and Taliban negotiators started last year (2020) in the Qatari capital of Doha, but have not made any substantive progress despite a few rounds.
Meanwhile, the Taliban fighters pushed deeper into the southern Afghan provincial capital of Lashkargah on Monday and closed in on government buildings.
