Guwahati News Desk: A total of fourteen members, including four children, of a marriage party were killed while 10 others injured after a stone-laden truck collided with three vehicles in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district.

The accident took place in Jaldhaka area in Dhupguri block on Tuesday night.

The collision took place due to dense fog as the cars of the marriage party were going towards Dhupguri on the wrong side of the road, a senior police officer said.

The injured people are undergoing treatment in Jalpaiguri Super Speciality Hospital.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed condolence over the incident and tweeted, “Saddened at the loss of lives because of a bus accident in Dhupguri. Condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for a speedy recovery of those injured.”
The PMO India also tweeted on Wednesday morning, “The road accident in Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) is extremely anguishing. In this time of sadness, prayers with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon: PM Narendra Modi.”
“From the PMNRF, ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the accident in West Bengal. Rs 50,000 each would be given to those injured,” it added.
