Guwahati News Desk: The Guwahati Traffic Police has suspended the driving licenses of 47 people for driving their vehicle in a drunken state. The police officials also imposed a penalty of Rupees 10, 000 to the motorist and drivers for drunk driving. The traffic police department of Guwahati took to Twitter to inform that in the drive against drunk driving, a total of 47 people were intercepted last night for driving while consuming alcohol. The tweet reads that the licenses of those caught were suspended and a fine of Rupees 10, 000 is being imposed on them.

On Friday the traffic police said, in view of ensuring that no accidents take place at this festive time of New Year, the police will be on strict watch to catch the drunk drivers in Guwahati.

A strategic plan has been initiated by the traffic police for the prevention of accidents due to drunk driving at the time of Christmas and New Year. Adequate measures are taken by the police authorities to prevent overspeeding vehicles and reckless driving that may lead to massive accidents. A special drive has been taken forward by the police to stop drunk driving so that no accidents occur in the name of celebration and enjoyment.

The police also pay special attention that motorcyclists along with the pillion were helmets. Laws have been enforced regarding wearing helmets in the city ensuring that every pillion and motorcyclist wears a helmet as mandatory. In view of the drink and drive matter on New year, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the higher officials and police departments to keep strict vigilance that no accidents took place at the time of celebrations.
