Guwahati News Desk: In the recent times, various reforms have been taken in prisons for the inmates. Under the initiative of prison headquarters, Guwahati an Aashirvaad progamme has been organized for the children of 74 inmates lodged from 20 jails who are going to appear in the HSLC examination, High School Madrasa, CBSE class 10 examinations.
As part of the initiative the Aashirvaad progamme was inaugurated at the Central Jail, Guwahati on Friday. This is the first time in the history of Assam prisons that such a programme is being organized to encourage and motivate the children of the prisoners who will appear in the final examinations.
At the outset, Inspector General of Prisons Barnali Sharma explained the purpose, aim and significance of the programme. Inaugurating the programme Principal Secretary, Home Department Neeraj Verma said that the programme would be a significant contribution to the society.
He said that the children of the inmates would provide an excellent example of becoming a good person through education. The children of the prisoners were greeted with books, paper, pens, bags and other essential items.
Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Dilip Saikia and Pradip Kumar Brahma, AIG Navjyoti Sharma gave valuable advice to the students. Jail inmates Mohit Hojai and Yuvraj Kalita lauded the move by the jail authorities and said they were emotional to have their children with them during the programme.
