The Minister asserted that drivers caught drinking and driving on an intervening night between 31 December and 1 January will have to face detention as per the traffic guidelines for New Year’s Eve. While addressing the media on Thursday, the CM also made it clear that anyone who drives in a drunken state during New Year’s Eve will be detained. He further informed that not just the driver will be arrested on being driving in an inebriated state but the passengers accompanying will also be arrested.
During his interaction with the media, the CM warns that the drivers found consuming alcohol will be the guest of the government for the whole night along with the people traveling with them and they will be allowed to leave only the next morning. The Minister stated in his discussion with media that he has no problem with people enjoying New Year’s Eve and has objection to people celebrating the upcoming year holding parties but those who will be caught driving a vehicle in a drunken state will surely face detention therefore they should not drink and drive.
He mentioned that the decision to detention of drunk drivers on New Year’s evening came in light of maintaining the safety of the citizens. The Assam police have been given instructions for maintaining the order and keeping a strict watch over the citizens. The government through this step will try to make sure that no one enjoys in a way that causes harm to their life and if people are caught driving while being intoxicated they will not be able to save themselves from the clutches of the Assam traffic police.
