Guwahati News Desk: A fresh explosion assumed to have been caused due to a rocket attack was reported from a highly congested residential area near Kabul airport on Sunday.

The explosion rocked the Gulai area of Khajeh Baghra in Kabul’s 11th security district near the airport, killing two people, including a child.

Several unconfirmed reports claimed that the blast might have been caused by a rocket hitting a residential house in the area.

The rocket attack came hours after US President Joe Biden warned about a credible security threat at the Kabul airport, saying another terrorist attack was “highly likely” in the next 24 to 36 hours.

Biden said in his statement, “Our commanders informed me that an attack is highly likely in the next 24-36 hours. I directed them to take every possible measure to prioritize force protection, and ensured that they have all the authorities, resources and plans to protect our men and women on the ground.”

Following that, the US State Department urged all Americans in the vicinity of the Kabul airport to leave the area immediately because of the threat.

In addition, the attack also came a day after the US killed two ISIS-K men in a airstrike as a ‘retaliation’ of the deadly blast near Kabul airport that took place on August 26 that killed over 180 and injured several others, including US, UK and Afghan nationals.

Meanwhile, several photos and videos of large plumes of smoke rising from a heavily congested residential area surfaced on social media soon after the blast took place.
