Guwahati News Desk: The Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Tuesday that the Muslim Political Parties in Assam are not raising voice against the increasing population in Assam while addressing the media. CM Sarma also added the increasing Islamic population in the State.
According to the sources, the Chief Minister to hold a meeting with the political parties in July to discuss increasing the population in the State. CM appealed to Assam Muslims to adopt a ‘decent family planning policy’ for proper population control.
CM Sarma said, “The government to work more for the minority Muslim community to reduce the population burden as the administration is always ready to work together in the State for controlling of the population in the State”.
Earlier, the government of Assam has announced to bring new legislation for the two-child policy in the State in the next budget session. According to the sources, the two-child policy will give the benefit to both the child as they can avail and will be eligible to get government jobs and to avail benefits from State-sponsored welfare schemes.
Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika said, “The State government is working on the legislation to find out the implementation ways of the policy on government jobs and schemes”.
“The population policy has already started in the State as the government is planning lots of things which need to be done. The population policy has started and was implemented in panchayat elections during the tenure of the last Assam government as now we are planning to implement the policy in government jobs and government scheme for two-child”, Pijush Hazarika added.
The two-child policy in the State in the next budget session will commence on July 12 for one month and some new legislation will come in this session. Earlier, in September 2017, the Assam Assembly had passed the Population and Women Empowerment Policy of Assam.
Earlier, the Assam Cabinet had also decided that no government jobs would be given to persons having more than two children after January 1, 2021. Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier said that the government can’t implement two-child norms in free admission of children to schools or Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
