Guwahati News Desk: In concern of the two cases of new coronavirus variant ‘Omicron’ found in India, a cabinet meeting was held where Assam’s Health Minister Kashab Mahanta shared the information that new SOP (Standard operating procedure) will be issued soon by the Assam government. In the cabinet meeting on Friday other major decisions are also taken while discussing the new variant of coronavirus Omicron.
Notably, the new variant does not cause more harm to the affected person as much as the earlier variant COVID-19 but seems to spreads faster from one person to another. The already existing vaccines available in the market will also be effective against Omicron. The Health Minister also informed that new policies will be made for foreigners traveling to India and following this a detailed SOP will be issued soon. He further added that the tests to find out whether the fresh detection of cases was of the new variant Omicron will be only possible to conduct in the states of Pune and Kolkata.
Some of the other major decisions taken in the cabinet meeting are given below:
- In the municipal election from now onwards, the Ballot paper will be replaced with EVMs (Electronic Voting Machine). EVMs will be used to cast votes.
- From now onwards numerous co-operatives can register at one place.
- No engineer will be allowed to go on deputation to other departments from PWD (Public Works Department) from now however they can go on deputation from different departments other than the PWD like WR, PHE or Er.
- The state government has arranged for grants from NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) to give 584 crores to Biswanath and 557 crores to Charaideo Medical College.
- Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will soon announce the name of the recipients of ‘Asom Sourav’ and ‘Asom Gourav ‘awards.
- Equity against the power department’s 931.91 crore loan.
