The Assam cabinet on Thursday decided to provide a one-time financial grant of Rs 15000 each to temple priests and Namghorias of the state.

During the cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, it has been decided that a financial grant of Rs 15000 each will be provided to the temple priests and Namghorias of Namghors (Vaishnavite place of worship) who faced difficulties during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Announcing the cabinet’s decision, Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said that an online portal will be opened for registration, whose details will be advertised later.

“The cabinet approved Assam Migrant Workers’ Food Security Scheme will provide dry ration to Covid-19 affected migrant workers. Under the scheme, the migrant workers will get rice, dal, mustard oil, and salt”, Keshab Mahanta said.

“District administrations will distribute dry ration based on the data of migrant workers available on the e-SHRAM portal and other available resources”, he added.

Meanwhile, the cabinet has also approved the Assam Industrial Relations Rules, 2021, to safeguard the interests of employers and employees, paving the way for industrial progress and ensuring industrial peace and harmony.

Along with this, MBBS seats reserved for tea garden communities have also been increased to 24 and BDS seats to three. Moreover, the cabinet has assured conversion of allotment certificates to periodic patta in rural areas within 3 years.
