Guwahati News Desk: October 30, 2008, a day remembered because of the serial blasts that rocked the entire state killing over 90 people and injuring many. The day marked as ‘Black Day’ as Ranjan Daimary-led faction of the NDFB executed the 9 explosions in Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta Road.
On this occasion a remembrance day was organized under Ganeshguri flyover and several other places of Guwahati like DC Office and Panbazar for the victims and for those who lost their loved ones in the blast.
In the event Minister of Guwahati Development Department, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Commissioner of Police M.P. Gupta (IPS), Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro Biswajit Pegu and local MLA were present.
In conversation with Hello Guwahati, Manisha Mili Barooah, resident of Hengrabari, one of the victims of Ganeshguri blast said, “I was 7 months pregnant with twins at that time; I got injured in the blast and lost my twins. Doctor later said that the gas from the explosion infected the twins and hence lost them. The blast still petrifies me in my unconscious mind. It took everything from us.”
In the remembrance day not much gathering was seen due to the continuing coronavirus pandemic. People who came to pay their tributes followed the COVID norms set the government.
