Guwahati News Desk: A full-fledged executive body meeting of the Assam Union of Working Journalists (AUWJ) was held in the conference hall of the Hotel Upasana Palace of Guwahati on Sunday. The event was presided over by AUWJ president Keshab Kalita. Secretary Tutumoni Phukan explained the objective of the meeting wherein almost all executive members of the organization and presidents, secretaries of the district committees and representatives of the various media houses were present.
Through a press release, AUWJ secretary Tutumoni Phukan informed that, in the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the upcoming election of the AUWJ executive body, its 45th biennial session, the status of the correspondents’ list to be submitted to the Director of Information and Public Relation (DIPR) by the District Information and Public Relation Officers (DIPROs) across the State, AUWJ audit report of the past session along with organizational issues. The meeting has decided to conduct the election on December 26 while November 25 is fixed for the publication of the voters’ list and November 23 for the renewal of members and deposit of the quota money.
On the other hand, Deputy Editor of Amar Asom, Goutam Sarmah has been engaged as the Chief Returning Officer. According to the decision taken in the meeting, the 45th session of the AUWJ will be held at Lido of Tinsukia district under the auspices of the Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association with a three-day long programme on January 21, January 22 and January 23.
In addition to these decisions, the meeting took a slew of resolutions to demand the Chief Minister and the State Government to allot one-time financial assistance to the journalists who have been financially affected during the COVID-19 pandemic situation, to launch a health insurance scheme to cover the working journalists, to arrange residence for the working, landless journalists in the towns and cities across the State, to set up the Press Academy at the own land of AUWJ located in the Journalists’ Colony at Kahilipara in Guwahati, the press release stated.
