Shedding another vestige of its colonial past, Barbados finally stopped pledging allegiance to Queen Elizabeth.
In addition, the news about Barbados being recognized as a republic was announced by the President of Barbados, Dame Sandra Mason, at a ceremony held in its capital, Bridgetown, during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
As per the sources, the ceremony was attended by several leaders, dignitaries and artists, including Prince Charles and Rihanna.
Moreover, the latest achievement was celebrated with fireworks peppering the sky at midnight. In addition, screens were set up across the island that featured an orchestra with more than 100 steel pan players and numerous singers, poets and dancers.
Furthermore, the event was also broadcasted through the online mode, prompting a flurry of excited messages from Bajans living in the U.S., Canada and beyond.
