Guwahati News Desk: Shazia Ilmi and Prem Shukla were appointed as BJP’s national spokesperson by the party itself, on Wednesday.
The national secretary of BJP, Arun Singh, stated, “BJP chief J.P. Nadda has appointed Shazia Ilmi and Prem Shukla as national spokesperson of the party.”
Regarding Ilmi, she belongs to Delhi, and is a journalist turned politician. She started her political journey from Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and had also unsuccessfully contested in the Delhi assembly election from the RK Puram constituency in 2013, as an AAP candidate. Later, on joining BJP, she was made the vice president of Delhi BJP, alongside the Lok Sabha member, Manoj Tiwari, as the president.
Regarding Shukla, who belongs to Mumbai, he was a former journalist who joined BJP in 2016. Shukla in his journalistic career, spanning over two decades, has worked both in print and electronic media.
However, both the BJP members, Ilmi and Shukla, have been speaking for the party and defending it on various issues in the media, for quite sometime now.
The party currently has 25 national spokespersons, including its media department head and chief spokesperson Anil Baluni.
Meanwhile, further changes and appointments are expected to be effected in the party following the July seven major rejig in the council of ministers and exit of Ravi Shankar Prasad and Prakash Javadekar from the cabinet.
