Guwahati News Desk: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed flyover at Dispur Supermarket in Guwahati. Speaking on the occasion CM Sarma said that the flyover is now open for the general public and people now will get some relief from the traffic.

The CM urged the people not to spit on the walls of the flyover. “The flyover is now open for public and I request everyone not to spit on the newly constructed bridge. The artists have made a great effort to make the bridge a beautiful one with their paintings. Please do not ruin their effort,” said CM Sarma.

“I am very happy that on the occasion of Diwali we could make the flyover operational and is now open for the public. The new bridge will make hassle-free traffic movement for the general public.  And I also request everyone not to spit on the newly constructed bridge,” added Sarma.

It maybe mentioned here that spit stains of paan-gutka were sighted on the flyover yesterday, angering netizens who slammed the people for showing disrespect towards a public property.

1205 meters in length, the flyover has been constructed to reduce congestion at the Supermarket by diverting traffic from Ganeshguri to Last Gate. The flyover has been constructed at for Rs 127.20 crore has been completed in 36 months.

The flyover which is already attracting huge crowd due to its beautifully decorated walls, has been painted by the artists of LivingArt group led by artist Neelim Mahanta. The paintings depict the rich tradition, cultural aspects of Northeast India and its varied tribal groups that make the Northeast a unique region in the entire country.

The new bridge will make hassle-free traffic movement from Khanapara to Ganeshguri. It is also expected to reduce traffic congestion on Paltan Bazar end of Supermarket junction on GS Road.
