Guwahati News Desk: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday offered floral tributes at Lachit Borphukan’s statue in Bongaigaon DC office premises on the occasion of Lachit Divas. He said that the patriotism and dedication towards one’s motherland should be imbibed by the young generation from the glorious example of great Ahom General Lachit Borphukan.
The Chief Minister laid foundation stone of the Central Market at Borobazar in Bongaigaon Town which will be built with a total cost of Rs. 16.68 crore from Urban Infrastructure Development Fund. The 2123.78 square meter building will facilitate commercial activities while also enhancing the beauty of the town.
After that, the Chief Minister visited Birjhara HS School and interacted with teachers and students there. The Chief Minister also inspected the renovated building of Birjhara Girl’s High School built in the model of a train under the Building as Learning Aids (BaLA) and interacted with the students and teachers.
Later the Chief Minister inaugurated a Biofloc unit set up under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana at Bongaigaon Deuripara. He also distributed ice container boxes to five women SHGs for helping in fish trade alongwith five three wheeler vehicles.
He also inaugurated the Clock Tower near Chilarai Flyover at Bongaigaon. The clock tower was constructed with the fund received under 15th Finance Commission. The Chief Minister also dedicated a public aquarium to the people at Bongaigaon Eco Park. He also interacted with cross section of the society and representatives of various organizations at Bongaigaon Circuit House.
Fishery Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister of Information and Public Relations Pijush Hazarika, MLA Phani Bhushan Choudhury, DC Bongaigaon were also present in today’s programmes along with other dignitaries, stated a press release.
