Guwahati News Desk: The Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi (DDC) organised the ‘Raahgiri Day’ in Najafgarh on Sunday.

The day was organised in partnership with Raahgiri Foundation and WRI India and was based on the theme of ‘Yuddh Pradushan Ke Viruddh’.

In addition, the Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot was invited as the chief guest for the day’s event.

Gahlot said, “Delhi roads belong to all, and we want to give it back to pedestrians and cyclists.”

He added, “Areas like Najafgarh, still have a village quality to them and the sense of community and belongingness is very strong. Being the elected representative of this constituency, I know that once the right awareness is created, residents of Najafgarh will be active stakeholders in this fight against pollution.”

The Vice Chairperson of DDC Jasmine Shah said, “Reducing pollution by promoting sustainable mobility is a core aspect of the ‘Yuddh Pradhushan ke Viruddh’ campaign.”

He added, “After the first ‘Raahgiri Day’ organised in East Delhi saw enthusiastic citizen participation. We have decided to bring the event to outer areas of Delhi, beginning with Najafgarh this Sunday. With the collective commitment and effort of various communities towards sustainable mobility, we can together reduce Delhi’s pollution and ensure safe streets.”

Moreover, a range of activities such as walking, running, cycling, skating, nukkad naatak, street games, music band, painting, dancing, performing arts, yoga, aerobics, Zumba etc. were also organized.

In addition, this was the second of six Raahgiri Days being hosted in Delhi over three months with the theme ‘Yudh Pradushan Ke Virudh’.

Furthermore, the central idea of ‘Raahgiri Day’ is to allow people to experience a street without cars which can help them re-imagine what free, open and unpolluted streets and the environment could be like.
