Guwahati News Desk: Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal holds a meeting with his cabinet on Wednesday night where a decision was made to appoint the World Champion sprinter Hima Das as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in the State.
Popularly known as ‘Dhing Express’, Hima will be appointed as a DSP rank officer in the Assam Police and other medal winners in Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games, etc will also be appointed as Class-I officers.
During the cabinet meeting, it was also decided to amend the integrated sports policy by appointing sports persons as Class-I and Class-II officers in different departments like Police, Excise, Transport, etc. says Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on Wednesday.
Earlier, Hima became the first Indian woman sprinter to win a gold medal in any format of a global track event at the IAAF World U20 Championship.
