Guwahati News Desk: A 25-year-old drunk man allegedly hit a tempo and ended up killing its driver and injuring three people, including a 15-year-old boy.
The incident took place in southeast Delhi’s Kalkaji on Monday.
As per the sources, the accused was returning to his home from a hotel after watching the India-Pakistan T20 world cup match, while driving his sports utility vehicle (SUV) in a very drunk state.
Meanwhile, the SUV driver has been identified to be a man named Aaditya Khurana.
Regarding, the 35-year-old tempo driver, Radhey Shyam, he received serious head injuries from the accident and was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre, but was ultimately declared as dead.
According to police, the incident occurred on the stretch between Nehru Place to Okhla carriageway, and the tempo was on way to deliver a consignment of festival related-items to a shop when it was allegedly hit by the SUV from behind.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Esha Pandey said, “Two persons, who were at the back of the tempo, were also injured.”
Regarding the accused, Pandey said, “We have registered a case against the accused driver under section 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of other) and 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).”
Pandey further informed that the others injured in the event are undergoing treatment and are out of danger.
Moreover, the injured have been identified as Pankaj (21) from Kalkaji, Pankaj (15), of Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district and Neeraj Aggarwal (36), a resident of west Delhi’s Bakkarwala.
