Guwahati News Desk: The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has set up 40 special Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for children who are infected by COVID-19.
According to the sources, around 135 children have been admitted to GMCH since April after tested positive for COVID-19.
Presently, nine children are undergoing treatment in GMCH during the second wave of COVID-19 in the State.
According to the sources, the Superintendent of GMCH Dr Abhijit Sarma informed that no children have been allowed to stay under home isolation as requested to parents to stay least and take care of the children to stay inside the home during the serious pandemic.
Dr Sarma also informed about the new arrival of Japanese Encephalitis disease in Guwahati as the first patients have been undergoing treatment in GMCH. A patient of 11-year-old admitted to the hospital on June 26.
In the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, children are getting affected by it.
Recently in Dibrugarh, five children died of COVID-19 out of which three were reported with co-morbidities.
A 11-month-old infant also died at Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH) which has put a tense situation in the district.
The 11-month-old who died earlier, came to the hospital in the worst condition from Tingkong. The minor was immediately admitted to the ventilation and after six hours the infants died, as said by the officials.
According to the sources, till date around 60 children were infected with COVID-19 and were admitted to the AMCH.
At least 2,300 children have tested positive for COVID-19 in Assam since April 1 this year, as per sources.
