Guwahati News Desk: The government of Assam has announced a half-holiday on the account of Muharram on August 20 across the State instead of August 19.
The Markazi Ruyat e Hilal Committee under Imarat e Shariah New Delhi has confirmed the start of the Islamic New Year 1443 AH on August 11 in India.
Hence in India, the Ashura will be marked on August 20 as the fast for 9th Muharram to be observed on August 19.
In the official order, the government of Assam has declared a half-holiday on account of Muharram on August 20 instead of August 19.
