Guwahati News Desk: Handique Girls’ College located near Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati has been declared as a micro containment zone by the Kamrup Metro district administration after the detection of positive COVID-19 cases among staff and students. Offline classes in the college have been suspended for upcoming seven days.
The Principal of Handique Girls’ College, Utpal Dutta confirmed the information and said that the Kamrup Metro district administration has taken the decision of declaring the college campus as a micro containment area after staffs and students were found infected with the deadly corona virus.
In the official notice release by the college, the principal mentioned that declared containment zone will remain effective for a week that will be applied from Wednesday 1 December 2021 to Tuesday 7 December, 2021.
The notice stated “In view of the detection of Covid19 positive cases among students and staff of Handique Girls’ College in Guwahati, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration has, vide order No. DDMA K (M)20/2021/505 dated 01/12/2021, declared the college as Micro Containment Zone for seven days, w.e.f. December 1, 2021 to December 7, 2021.”
Utpal Dutta further stated in the notice that the entry of unauthorized individual and vehicle inside the college campus of Handique Girls’ College is strictly prohibited. The notice reads that the physical classes in the college premises have been suspended for the declared time period of 7 days as containment zone. The principal ordered all the departments of the college to shift to online method classes during the notified period of the containment zone.
In view of the active covid case in the college and the containment zone the sessional examination of the college has been postponed until further notice by the college authorities as mentioned by the college principal in the notice issued.
National Health Mission (NHM) stated that Assam has reported 5 new fatalities due to COVID-19 on Tuesday 30 November rising the death toll to 6,103 and 144 new cases pushed the count to 6,16,852. As per the data by the Health MInistry till last of November a total of 1,278 active covid positive cases has been detected of which Kamrup Metropolitan district registered 57.
