Guwahati News Desk: Union Home Affair and Cooperation and Chairman of North East Council Amit Shah visited the Assam Rifles Headquarters at Laitkor in Shillong in Meghalaya on July 24 and 25.
Amit Shah visited first time in the headquarters and he was impressed with the extremely scenic and well laid out garrison. Shah stated after his visit that this beautiful campus should be an example of how a campus should be.
Union Minister also briefed on the operational and administrative matters of the Force by Lt Gen P C Nair, AVSM, YSM, DG Assam Rifles.
The prevailing security situation in the North East was also discussed by Amit Shah at length and also remarked that the Assam Rifles had earned the goodwill of the people of the North East in its over 180 years of glorious history. This he added was truly remarkable for any Force.
During the visit, Home Minister Shah also had a meal and interacted with the officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks of Assam Rifles based at Laitkor.
Shah also complemented them for the excellent professionalism and dedication to service that had been displayed by them over the decades.
Shah also added that the nation is proud of the operational achievements and contribution of the Assam Rifles Force true to its name ‘Sentinels of the North East’.
The enthusiasm and high morale displayed during the interaction over the lunch was also appreciated by the Hon’ble Minister.
