Guwahati News Desk: In an alleged knife rampage by an Islamic State-inspired attacker, six people have been killed and three others injured.

The horrifying incident took place at a supermarket in Auckland, New Zealand, on Friday.

Informing that the killer was a Sri Lankan national who was inspired by the Islamic State group, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said she was “gutted” the man had managed to carry out his “hateful” assault even though he was on a terror watch list.

She informed that the man entered a shopping mall in suburban Auckland and seized a knife from a display before going on the stabbing spree. He ended up killing six people and three were critically wounded.

The New Zealand authorities informed that they were able to shoot and kill the violent extremist in the spot itself.

As per the sources, the terrified shoppers fled from the exits in order to escape from the deadly chaos. In addition, several video footages of the incident were shot by the bystanders that showed men running towards the incident before a barrage of shots rang out.

Meanwhile, this particular attack has stirred painful memories of the Christchurch mosques shootings that had occurred on March 2019, which is considered to be New Zealand’s worst terror atrocity till date, where a white supremacist gunman had mercilessly murdered 51 Muslim worshippers.
