Guwahati News Desk: Assam’s towering political personality, veteran freedom fighter, Ex-Speaker of Assam Assembly, Minister Late Jananayak Debeswar Sarma’s statue has been inaugurated at CSIR- North East Institute of Science and Technology in Jorhat on Thursday.
The statue was inaugurated by former Director of CSIR- Central Institute of Drug Research, Lucknow & Chairman of Research Council NEIST, Dr Madhu Dikhsit.
It’s noteworthy that Debeswar Sarma played a key role in the establishment of the country’s foremost research institute, Regional Research Laboratory at Jorhat way back on 18th March 1961.
The institute was formerly known as Regional Research Laboratory (RRL).
The meeting was attended by Dr G Narahari Shastri, Director of CSIR-NEIST, several eminent scientists, officers and employees of NEIST, Subrat Sarma, MD of Janambhumi group of publication, the family of Late Debeswar Sarma, leading citizens of Jorhat.
