Guwahati News Desk: Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced during his visit to the Jorhat district on Thursday that the historic Jorhat Central Jail will be preserved as a heritage site.
It will declare as heritage site once all the prisoner will be shifted to a new facility in Jorhat.
During his Jorhat visit, CM Dr Sarma said on the occasion of the 75th year of India’s Independence Day the Jorhat Central Jail will be preserved as a tribute to the nation’s freedom fighters who had dedicated their whole life fighting against the British for independence.
CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “As per my announcement on Independence Day, we shall preserve 100 bighas of Jorhat Central Jail as a heritage site after shifting the present prison to another location. It will be our tribute to our great freedom fighters as we celebrate the 75th year of Independence.”
CM Sarma also interacted with the jail authorities and some inmates and reviewed the completed process and grievances. CM Sarma rounded all across the heritage jail and remembered the freedom fighters.
