Guwahati News Desk: A bike rally was flagged off from Ganeshguri in the city on Sunday to create awareness about road safety.
The rally was organized by the Kamrup (Metro) District Transport Office (DTO), in association with Assam Yuba Parishad (AYP) and Spacebar. Kamrup (Metro) District Transport Officer Gautam Das said that the speed limit of 60 km/hr has been fixed for December 31, 2021.
“On the last day of the year, people are busy celebrating and they often forget about traffic rules and road safety. So we have fixed speed limit of 60 km/hr. Those who drive beyond this speed limit will be fined.”
He further said, “As we get ready to welcome the new year, we want to ensure that road safety is maintained so that no lives are lost. We appeal to people to follow all road safety rules. Drivers of two-wheelers and pillion riders must wear helmets. no excuses will be accepted. Celebrate but remain cautious.”
He added that this year, Rs 39 crore had been collected as fine for traffic rule violations across the State.
Actor Jatin Bora, who was also present at the event, said, “This initiative has been taken up so that there are no accidents on December 31 and January 1. We must support this initiative and maintain road safety.”
