People of Assam are celebrating Kati bihu today. Although this bihu is not for joyous celebrations but celebrated for good harvest after the monsoon season.
Kati bihu or Kangali (poor) bihu is celebrated on the first day of kati month in Assamese calendar by lighting earthen lights in front of basil (tulsi) sapling to welcome godess Lakshmi. The lighting is continued for the whole kati (October) month.
