Guwahati News Desk: In a major drug haul, a special squad led by the Joint Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, on Sunday seized a truck (WB 65 C 2150) carrying drugs, at Raju Parking, Boragaon.
The team recovered 2.45 kg heroin from the driver’s cabin of the truck. Two people were arrested in this connection. They have been identified as Dalim Sheikh and Dilwar, both hailing from West Bengal.
According to police sources, the market value of the seized drugs is around Rs 16 crore. The drugs was being smuggled to north India.
Continuing its crackdown against drug trafficking, a team of the West Guwahati Police Department (WGPD) led by Nabneet Mahanta, DCP (West) Guwahati apprehended a woman identified as Retilla Marak of Williamnagar, Meghalaya and Abdul Matleb (driver) of Medhitari Barpeta at KS restaurant-cum-dhaba in Milannagar area of the city under Azara Police Station on Saturday.
The police team that carried out the raid based on specific inputs recovered 500 grams of heroin from the woman.
In yet another instance, a team of the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) from Gorchuk Police Station arrested a drug peddler –Suman Das of Lalmati– on Saturday and recovered 13 gm heroin from his possession.
