Guwahati News Desk: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee visited the iconic Kamakhya temple in Guwahati to offer her prayers to Goddess Kamakhya on December 21. The Trinamool Congress leader reached the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati around 12 noon and directly headed to the Kamakhya temple situated at Nilachal Hills.

Banerjee told the press, “I want to credit this accomplishment to the people of the state and Maa, Mati, Manush” (mother, land and people – the slogan of TMC). Several national parties, including the BJP, Congress, and CPI(M), fought us, but they were all defeated. This victory will set the tone for national politics in the future.

Meanwhile, The Trinamool Congress reclaimed control of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation for the third time on Tuesday, months after winning a landslide victory in the West Bengal legislative elections. Its candidates were victorious in 101 of the 144 wards, and in 33 of them, they were in the lead.

ccording to surveys, the TMC has won 101 seats and is leading in 33 additional wards. It has a clear majority in KMC. According to an SEC official, the saffron party’s nominee Mina Devi won ward number 22 and was ahead in three wards, the Congress won two seats, while the CPI and CPI(M) each won one.

This was Mamata Banerjee’s first visit to any state of Northeast India, after her party made inroads in Meghalaya and Assam poaching senior Congress leaders.
