Guwahati News Desk: A minor girl student of Modern English School, Kahilipara – who had jumped off from the fourth floor of her school building on Friday – passed away on Sunday. She had sustained injuries after she jumped from the school building and was undergoing treatment in the city’ Hayat Hospital.
According to sources, the girl and her parents had gone to the Udalbakra police outpost a few days ago to lodge an FIR against a boy who is a student of the same school. The girl – a Class VIII student –had alleged that the boy was mentally harassing her. However, sources said that the police allegedly refused to lodge the FIR as the boy is the nephew of the school’s Principal and his father works in the police department. The girl had left a suicide note in which she alleged that her school Principal Jonali Das and the boy’s father were harassing her due to which she was compelled to take the extreme step.
The girl’s classmates said that she was an intelligent girl, good in studies and well behaved. Her demise sparked anger among the school students and the local people. A protest was staged with the deceased girl’s body in the Udalbakra area and in front of the Principal’s house by local people, school students and activists of various student bodies.
An activist of the All Assam Mising Students’ Union said, “We demand immediate arrest of the school Principal and all those who are responsible for pushing the girl to this extreme step. We will not let her last rites to be performed until and unless action is taken against those guilty. If the police do not take necessary action, we will launch a Statewide stir. We also urge the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter.”
