Guwahati News Desk: The MP of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Derek O`Brien, was suspended from the Rajya Sabha for his “unruly behaviour” on Wednesday.
The decision of suspending O`Brien was taken as he had allegedly thrown the Rajya Sabha Rule Book on the reporters’ table during a discussion on the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021.
According to reports, O`Brien will remain suspended from Rajya Sabha for the remaining part of the current Session.
Moreover, it was the Biju Janata Dal leader, Sasmit Patra, who made the announcement to suspend O`Brien followed by a motion moved by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V. Murleedharan in the Upper House.
Meanwhile, the TMC leader took to Twitter to share the news about his suspension from Rajya Sabha, while protesting against ”BJP making a mockery of Parliament and Bulldozing the Election Laws Bill 2021.”
Furthermore, O`Brien now joins the 12 already suspended Rajya Sabha MPs who have been protesting at the Gandhi statue in Parliament against the Centre.
