Guwahati News Desk: By recalling the media’s contribution and evolution in the country, the Press Council of India (PCI) celebrated the National Press Day, with eminent personalities on Tuesday.
In order to mark the occasion, the PCI organised a seminar on the topic, ‘Who is not afraid of media?’.
Addressing the seminar, editor of the Tamil language magazine ‘Thuglak’, Swaminathan Gurumurthy, traced the changes media has undergone since the time of pre-Independence to the present date.
Referring to social media as “anarchic”, he suggested that a complete ban should be imposed on it as it poses a risk to “everybody’s image, national security and national interest”.
In addition, lively and insightly interaction among the audience and speaker took place.
Moreover, Gurumurty was invited as a guest of honour at the event hosted by the media watchdog which is headed by Justice (retd.) Chandramauli Kumar Prasad.
