Guwahati News Desk: The Central government of India to subject online news portals and online streaming portals like Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hotstar into new censorship rules like that of television. The notification was issued by the Cabinet Secretariat on Tuesday night and signed by the President Ram Nath Kovind.
From today onwards the government will have the power to regulate policies related to audio, visual contents, and news under the span of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The decision has been taken in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (3) of Article 77 of the Constitution, by amending the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961 and it will come into effect immediately.
