Guwahati News Desk: A passenger plane in Russia faced a horrifying crash with 28 people on board on Tuesday.
The plane was a Soviet-made An-26 twin engine turboprop, that was flying from the regional capital Petropavlovsk – Kamchatka to Palana, a village in the mouth of the Kamchatka.
The accident occurred after the plane suddenly lost radio contact with the air traffic control, about 10 minutes prior to its expected landing in the town of Palana.
After Russia’s civil aviation authority confirmed the plane’s crash site, a helicopter was immediately dispatched and teams were deployed on the ground by the emergencies ministry to look for the missing aircraft.
The 28 deceased included of 22 passengers and 6 crew members. The mayor of Palana, Olga Mokhireva was also one of the passengers on board.
According to Russia’s Investigative Committee, the cause of the crash could have been the poor weather and the low visibility or some error caused by the pilot or due to a technical failure with the plane.
Meanwhile, Governor Vladimir Solodov has stated that the plane appeared to have been going around, making a second attempt to land at the Palana airport, before it crashed.
This incident is Russia’s third major commercial aviation calamity in the last three and a half years and it has also forced the people to recall the memories of the 2012 An-28 plane crash that was flying on the same route, in which 10 out of 14 passengers were killed.
