PM Modi meets Pope Francis at Vatican, for the very first time

Guwahati News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Pope Francis at Vatican, as part of his Rome visit for the G20 Summit on Saturday.

The meeting took place at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.

As per the sources, PM Modi and the Pope discussed a wide range of issues which aimed at making the planet better, including fighting climate change and removing poverty.

After the meeting, Modi said, “had a very warm meeting with Pope Francis. I had the opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues with him and also invited him to visit India.”

As per the press release by the Ministry of External Affairs, Pope Francis accepted Modi’s invitation with pleasure.

In addition, it was PM Modi’s first ever one-on-one interaction with the Pope.

Meanwhile, the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar accompanied PM Modi to meet Pope Francis.

Moreover, in the G20 summit, PM Modi held meetings with the French President Emmanuel Macron and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Saturday.

The PM further interacted with world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and UK PM Boris Johnson. The world leaders gathered in Italy exchanged pleasantries and showcased a spirit of camaraderie.

Furthermore, PM Modi has a very busy week planned ahead, with high profile meetings at the G20 summit in Italy and the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland.
