Guwahati News Desk: A police complaint was recently filed by a BJP leader against the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee for allegedly disrespecting the national anthem after she was seen standing up midway of the national anthem in Mumbai.
The incident occurred during a press conference on Wednesday.
In addition, in Wednesday’s meet, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo was in Mumbai to meet the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar to make a pitch for unifying opposition parties against the ruling BJP at the Centre.
Moreover, videos showcasing the CM’s actions also surfaced on social media. In the videos, Banerjee can be seen sitting again finishing the anthem abruptly.
According to the leader of Mumbai BJP, Banerjee was “showing utter disrespect to national anthem” by allegedly singing it while in sitting position and then “abruptly stopping after 4 or 5 verses.”
Reacting to the CM’s action, the West Bengal BJP unit went ahead to share the clip of 16-seconds of Banerjee singing the national anthem on Twitter by saying, “Today, as a Chief Minister, she has insulted the culture of Bengal, the national anthem and the country, and Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore!”
In another tweet by BJP leader Amit Malviya, he said, “Our national anthem is one of the most powerful manifestations of our national identity. The least people holding public office can do is not demean it. Here is a mutilated version of our national anthem sung by Bengal CM. Is India’s opposition so bereft of pride and patriotism?”
Furthermore, even more BJP leaders have stepped up to express their anger on the issue stated above.
