Nikita Buragohain: The prestigious Tezpur Central University on Saturday organised their 19th Convocation, in order to confer the degrees of the graduating class of 2021, which had been initially postponed due to the Covid scenario.
In Saturday’s Convocation, President Ram Nath Kovind graced the university as the Chief Guest of auspicious occassion, and was accompanied by the First lady of India, Savita Kovind and his daughter Swati Kovind.
The occassion was also graced by the presence of the Governor of Assam and the Chancellor of Tezpur University, Prof. Jagadish Mukhi, and the guest of honour being the Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The entire event took place in Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha Auditorium, more popularly known as KBR Auditorium.
While delivering the 19th Convocation address at the Central University, President Kovind asserted that the students and faculty of Tezpur University should aim to make it a major centre of innovation. He further urged them to encourage community participation and use local resources for finding solutions to local and national problems. The President went ahead to appreciate Assam stating it to be gifted with extraordinary beauty of nature and rich bio-diversity.
Regarding the safety measures taken up by the university, as well as by the Govt. of Assam, the entire university was packed up with police officials and numerous security forces. Only the chosen student volunteers, awardees, official members and the guests were allowed in the auditorium.
To further add more security even the students who were not involved in the event were all asked to stay inside their hostel campuses and the main University entrance was closed as well, along with a tight security check prevalent there.
In addition, the Minister of Education (Govt. of Assam), Dr. Ranoj Pegu; the Minister of Health, Family Welfare, Science & Technology (Govt. of Assam), Dr. Keshab Mahanta; Member of Parliament Pallab Lochan Das and other members of Legislative Assembly of various constituencies were also present in the 19th Convocation held at the Central University.
Moreover, the volunteers, awardees as well as every individual student of Tezpur University were very thrilled to witness a golden day like the 19th Convocation.
