Guwahati News Desk: Two Army soldiers held for alleged links with Pakistan’s ISI and drug dealing by Punjab Police on Wednesday.

The duo was arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Official Secrets Act.

Harpreet Singh (19 Rashtriya Rifles), posted in Anantnag belonged to Cheecha village in Amritsar whereas, Gurbhej Singh (18 Sikh Light Infantry), from Punian village in Tarn Tarn, was posted in Kargil.

DGP, Dinkar Gupta in a press statement mentioned that SSP Naveen Singh of the Jalandhar Rural Police Department was the one to recover certain confidential documents related to the deployment and functioning of the Indian Army, from a cross-border drug smuggler named Ranvir Singh.

Earlier on May 24, Ranvir was arrested and during interrogation he ended up admitting that he had obtained those confidential documents from Sepoy Harpreet Singh, who was from his village. He further admitted about motivating and luring Harpreet to do the job with financial benefits.

Eventually, Harpreet also induced his friend Sepoy Gurbhej into the whole act and for both Harpreet and Gurbhej, it became quite easy to access the classified documents that contained all the strategic and tactical information related to the Indian army. The two had also been accused of sharing the information with Pakistan’s ISI, either directly or through another drug smuggler, Gopi.

However when Gopi was arrested, he admitted about sharing information’s with the ISI operative, Sikander and with the drug smuggler of Pakistan named Kothar and everything was done through encrypted applications only.

According to reports, the two soldiers are now under the Jalandhar police custody and are to stay there till 11th July.
