Guwahati News Desk: A Railway engine was seized from Bamunimaidan on Wednesday from Senior DME, Chandan Mohan Tiwari for killing two elephants between Patharkhula and Lamsakhang Railway Station on September 27, 2020 midnight.

The engine was seized under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 as the seized operation was conducted by Lumding Forest Range under Nagaon South Division.

The Loco Pilot and Asst. Loco Pilot were already suspended by the Railways.

However, the Minister of Environment And Forest, Parimal Suklabaidya said the killing of elephants on the railway track must stop as the department must not fail in any condition to take tough action against the Railways.
However Tiwari agreed to fulfill compensation of Rs 12 cr for any loss and damage of the seized property.
