Guwahati News Desk: Joseph Marakar, the man who was recuperating from a fatal accident caused by model Rajkanya Baruah, passed away early this morning in Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Joseph was undergoing treatment at GMCH after he and along with his colleagues met with a fatal accident after being hit by Rajkanya Baruah’s car who was at the moment driving under the influence of alcohol.

Joseph Marakar had lost one of his legs in the accident and his other leg too had to be amputated. His condition worsened early this morning as the doctors treating him tried their best to save him.

Baruah was granted bail just 24-hours after she caused the accident at GS Road, near Rukminigaon on the night of October 1. However, the case took a twist after the controversy of granting bail to the model.

Upon controversy on her bail, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered investigation upon the investigating officer handling her case.

Assam police re-arrested Rajkanya Baruah on October 6, 2021. Baruah was re-arrested after a medical report was submitted by Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) stating her condition to be all good and that an investigation can be initiated against her. The medical report claimed that she had no serious illness for being admitted at GNRC hospital.

Former Miss India finalist Rajkanya Baruah injured as many as eight workers of the PWD (Public Works Department) in a road accident in Guwahati, Assam of which Joseph Marakar received serious injuries. Marakar was a resident of West Garo Hills and was working as a labour for the PWD.
