Guwahati News Desk: At least five COVID-19 patients were killed and six others were injured after a massive fire broke out at the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital at Rajkot in Gujarat on Thursday.
After the fire broke out at COVID-19 Uday Shivanand Hospital, the injured people were shifted to the nearest hospital.
According to the sources, the fire may have caused by an electrical short-circuit as the government has directed a high-level enquiry into the incident to find out the cause.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani expressed grief over the tragic incident and announced 4 lakh ex-gratia for the patients who lost their lives in the incident. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has said around 33 patients recovered from the hospital including 11 patients from ICU.
The rescue team immediately rushed on the spot as the firefighters had a tough time controlling the situation.
