Guwahati News Desk: Sewali Kalita, a 22-year-old girl, who hails from Noonmati, Guwahati, is a new name trending on social media for her excellent craftworks.

She is a micro pencil artist who is known for creating micro designs in pencils like Taj Mahal, chair, table, micro sculptures, names, etc.

Sewali Kalita is a current student at Guwahati College.Sewali is a BA 6th Semester student of Guwahati College.

In conversation with Hello Guwahati, Sewali said:
“People rarely know about the use of pencil other than writing. As I am a micro pencil artist I create beautiful artistic things with pencil leads.”

When asked about where did she learn all this, she said:
“Actually, I didn’t learn this from anywhere. I just experimented with this during the lockdown period (from the past 6 months) to relax from my studies. I tried to create different types of shapes with pencil lead and gradually, I made tables and chairs with it.”

She added:
“I just use pencils and blades for making these and click pictures to upload on my WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. But I never thought that it is an art. After uploading it on my social media, people started appreciating my work.”

People suggested her to take guidance from YouTube videos and Google for improving her skills.

Sewali said that after taking help from those platforms, she improved a lot.

She further stated:
” I use normal razor blades for making those designs and sometimes I cut my fingers too. And once, when I uploaded a picture, a Facebook friend from Goalpara saw
a drop of blood in the picture. She then asked me to use a professional blade instead of a normal raroz blade, this will make my work easier. She also said that I can buy it online. But as I am not that financially strong I could not afford the blades she recommended. And to my utter surprise she gifted me the blades; and this is my first ever gift from an unknown person in my life.”

She now gets orders from people to create their names.

Sewali revealed that she was inspired by the famous South Indian movie Makkhi, where the lead character Bindu was a micro artist and created a locket out of a pencil lead. After watching the movie she too tried her hands on it and now learning with every steps
