Smart traffic lights or intelligent traffic lights are vehicle traffic control system that combines traditional traffic lights with an array of sensors and artificial intelligence to intelligently route vehicle and pedestrian traffic. They can form part of a bigger intelligent transport system.
By combining new communications technology with the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to crunch vast amounts of data in real-time it may be possible to ease our clogged roads so they can cope with the growing number of cars.
