Guwahati News Desk: In a suspected African swine fever (ASF) over 100 domestic pigs died in Mizoram’s Lunglei district bordering Myanmar.
Despite the preliminary tests have shown the cause of death is due to ASF; yet for a confirmatory test, the samples have been sent to the National Institute of High-Security Animal Disease in Bhopal.
Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Dr Hmarkunga commenting on the suspected spread of ASF said, “There is an outbreak of the disease in Lungsen in Lunglei district. Over 100 pigs died till yesterday (Wednesday) and as of now, the outbreak is only in one village. Our further investigations are going on.”
The import and export of pigs according to reports had been restricted for the time being in the village.
