Guwahati News Desk: At least two elephants were killed after coming in contact with illegally installed fences at Baksa district in Assam on Friday.
The incident was reported near the Assam-Bhutan border at Koroibari area near the Batabari Forest Range on Friday.
According to the sources, both male elephants came down from the Bhutan hills in search of food. The illegal fences were installed by Reshan Daimary to protect his crops.
Daimary was taken under custody and booked under the Wildlife Protection Act as the investigation was underway.
A person, identified as Reshan Daimary, who had allegedly installed the electric fences to protect his crops, surrendered before the police.
According to the sources, around 13 elephants were killed down by illegal electric fences as the Baksa electrocution incident is the third incident reported in Assam this year.
