Guwahati News Desk: Veteran sportsman, sports organizer and retired government officer Durga Prasad Borah, a respected and well known personality of the State, died on Monday morning.
He was 94 and leaves behind his wife Anu Borah and their three daughters. He was an alumnus of Jadavpur Engineering College and Banff Management Institute, Canada; and held core appointments in various departments of the Government of Assam. He was a brilliant sportsman and made his mark in whichever sport he pursued, namely tennis, badminton, cricket and golf.
He held with distinction the post of president of All Assam Tennis Association for five years and was instrumental in making this into an internationally recognized and accredited organization. In his younger days, he captained Cotton College Cricket team to greater glory and triumphs and was also State-level badminton champion for two years.
He also served as president of India Club and Guwahati Club for six years and this marked the glorious days of both the clubs with the introduction of innovative entertainment and sports initiatives. He served as president of the Kaziranga Wild Life Society for six years and was a passionate advocate of the same. He was on the Board of Directors of Assam Gas Company, Assam Spun Silk Mills and ASIDC.
Guwahati Lawn Tennis Association, All Assam Tennis Association, India Club, Guwahati Kaziranga Wild Life Society and Guwahati Club condoled the death of Durga Prasad Bora and prayed to the Almighty for peace of his departed soul.
