Guwahati News Desk: Showcasing their devotion on the holy occassion of Yama Dwitiya festival, over one lakh pilgrims and local devotees took a dip at different ghats of Yamuna river on Saturday.

Informing about the event, the District Magistrate of Mathura, Navneet Singh Chahal said, “At least 1.25 lakh pilgrims have taken a dip in the holy Yamuna at Vishram Ghat.”

People from different parts of the country came in for the festival including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Bihar.

As per the sources, to avoid congestion and chaos, the pilgrims and locals bathed at other ghats of Yamuna along with those in Gokul, Vrindavan and rural areas of the district.

In addition, after bathing in the river, the pilgrims also paid their obeisance in Yamuna Yamraj temple located at the banks.

Regarding the festival of Yama Dwitiya, this day celebrates the bond between the siblings. The sisters pray for their brothers’ long lives by performing ‘Tika’ ceremony and brothers give gifts to their sisters. The day falls two days after Diwali and is observed on Dwitiya Tithi during the Kartik month.

Moreover, owing to the foolproof planning, no untoward incident was reported on the occassion.
