Guwahati News Desk: A suspected IED blast was allegedly carried out inside Cachar district of Assam by miscreants from Mizoram on Saturday, targeting a delegation of Assam government officials including senior police officials, during an eviction drive.
The mentioned eviction drive was being carried out because, in the Khulicherra area of the district, people from Mizoram were reportedly seen entering up to 6.5 kilometres inside Assam’s land.
Hence, following this aspect, the Assam Police along with civil administration had decided to carry out the eviction drive.
However, just a day after the suspected IED blast, two back to back explosions took place on Sunday along the inter-state border on the side of the neighbouring state.
An Assam Police source told media that, “Two blast sounds were heard coming from the Mizoram side at 2.40 am and 2.43 am. The CRPF, which is a neutral force deployed at Khulicherra Point-II, has been asked to enquire into the suspected blasts on the Mizoram side.”
Further sources have stated that, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the CM of Assam, has written to the CM of Mizoram, Zoramthanga, to settle the border dispute by using satellite mapping of the actual border locations.
Meanwhile, Mizoram’s CM, has denied the accusations and has also re-tweeted a report, stating that no grenade was hurled in the area on Saturday and the sound was of the bursting of a tyre of an excavator.
Currently, the situation is normal although tension still prevails and Assam Police personnel are in alert position in the entire border area, along with additional Director General of Police (Border) of Assam, Harmeet Singh, who is camping at the spot.
