Guwahati News Desk: At least 24 animals were killed by massive flood in the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KPNTR).
According to the sources, among the 24 animal 17 hog deer, two rhinos, one wild buffalo, two swap deer, a python and a cap langur died in a heavy flood in Kaziranga.
The Kaziranga forest officials have successfully rescued four animals including 10-day-old male rhino calf from central range.
The mother of the calf could not able to traced by the officials as the baby calf was immediately sent to the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRD).
According to the sources, 70 per cent area of KNPTR was affected by flood but as of now after overall improvement 30 per cent of it’s area are still under flood water.
The officials of KNPTR are keeping close monitor in the National Highway to view the movement of the animals which are crossing the highway.
Earlier, the forest department and district administration has enforced a speed limit in the National Highway in Kaziranga in order to prevent death of the animals who frequently cross the road which might get hit by speeding vehicles and led to injury and death.
