Guwahati News Desk: In the past 24 hours, five terrorists have been killed in three separate encounters done by the security forces in the Kulgam and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Immediately after the security forces received information regarding the presence of militants in the mentioned areas, they launched a cordon and began the search operation in the Zodar area of Kulgam district.
Once discovered, the militants in the area began to open fire at the security forces, for which the search operation turned into three events of encounter.
Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir informed that the five terrorists who were neutralized included, two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, killed in Kulgam, two more were killed in the encounter at Pulwama and the fifth was one of the longest surviving terrorist of Hizbul Mujahideen, named, Mehrazuddin Halwai alias Ubaid, who was killed in the encounter at Handwara in Kupwara district.
IG Kumar further stated,
“Mehrazuddin Halwai is an old terrorist and was involved in the killing of civilians, sarpanch, police and security personnel. He was involved in many IED and grenade blasts. He used to recruit and raise funds for terrorist organizations.”
